Guest Speaker-Abby J. Kinchy

Dr. Abby Kinchy is an experienced sociologist whose research interests include agriculture, biotechnology, environmental politics, and history. Dr. Kinchy published her second book, Seeds, Science, and Struggle: The Global Politics of Transgenic Crops, in 2012. Seeds, Science, and Struggle examined protests and activism against genetic engineering and in defense of alternative agriculture in Mexico and Canada. Her most recent research, the Watershed Knowledge Mapping Project, concerns the controversy over hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking.” Dr. Kinchy has been honored as a Hennebach Visiting Scholar, in the Colorado School of Mines, and was awarded the James M. Tien ’66 Early Career Award for Faculty from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
